Attention, Centennial Park Users. Due to the pending sale of Municipal Light & Power (ML&P) to Chugach Electric, the land east of Centennial Park has to be re-platted. This has given the community a chance to secure a trail easement going east of Centennial Park to the JBER military fence.

The Northeast Community Council ha passed a motion NOT supporting the re-plat unless a trail easement and green belt is granted. This will allow the existing park trail system to connect with the easement along the military fence. A proposed bike trail may someday connect the Ship Creek Bridge underpass on the Glenn Highway Bike Trail to the north with the Campbell Creek Bike Trail and greenbelt to the south of Tudor Road.

Please consider sending a comment to the Municipality of Anchorage Platting Board if you cannot attend the hearing supporting the trail easement and green belt connecting Centennial Park with the trail along the military fence. See map above.

If we are proactive, we can enhance our local trail system and keep Centennial Park from becoming another pocket park. Let’s fight to keep connected to an uninterrupted trail system. –Stu Grenier
